FotoWeek DC Photography Competition

FOTOWEEK DC promises to establish itself as the nation’s premiere photography festival. To highlight and recognize the most talented photographers in the area, FOTOWEEK DC is calling for submission of your very best work in all aspects of photography!

The FotoWeek DC Photography Competition is designed to recognize, honor, and celebrate the achievements of area professional photographers in the community of their peers through submissions of work in six categories.

In addition, amateur and student work will be included and judged in six separate categories. A distinguished panel of judges will select images to be awarded on Saturday, November 22 at the FotoWeek DC awards ceremony and gala to be held at the National Geographic Society’s Headquarters.

All the finalist’s images from each of the categories will be included in the official exhibition space in the heart of Georgetown, FotoWeek DC’s central hub, as part of the FotoWeek DC festival November 15 - 22, 2008.

Eligibility:

DC, MD and VA based photographers may enter in 3 classes:  professional, amateur, and student. Students must be enrolled in a college or university and finalists must be able to provide proof of student status upon notification. All works must have been created on or after January 1, 2003. All entrants must be 18 and older as of September 29, 2008. Images created via any form of photography will be accepted for consideration (film, digital, cell phone, and alternatives processes), but must be submitted electronically.

Entry Fees:

Deadlines: 

Submissions are due no later than September 29, 2008 at 11:59 PM PDT.

Entries submitted between August 19th, 2008 after 12:00 AM PDT and before September 22nd, 2008 at 11:59 PM PDT will incur regular fees of $15 per image and $95 per series.  Entries submitted between September 23rd, 2008 at 12:00 AM PDT and September 29th at 11:59 PM PDT will incur an additional fee so that a single image will be $25 per entry and $105 per series.THE FINAL DATE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS SEPTEMBER 29, 2008, 11:59 PM PDT.

Preparing Your Images:

Images formatted in JPEG or TIFF measuring at least 1,000 pixels on their long dimension are preferred. Images may be color profiled in sRGB, Adobe-1998, or not color-managed. For more information contact us here.

Notification of Finalists:

Finalists will be notified of acceptance no later than October 17, 2008 by the e-mail address the entrant used to login and submit their images.  Further information about preparing files for exhibition will be included in the acceptance packet. In order for winning selections to be included in the exhibition, high-res files must be submitted by 11:59 PM PDT on October 22, 2008.

Exhibition and Awards:

The top four finalists from each category in each discipline, chosen by a panel of judges, will be exhibited in during FotoWeek DC at 3383 M Street in Georgetown.
